BULL TERRIER CLUB OF ST. LOUIS, Inc. Est. 1980 |
|
OUR HISTORY The Bull Terrier Club of St. Louis, Inc. was officially established in 1983. The Club was originally established in 1980 as the Gateway Bull Terrier Club, by Don and Judy Hamby, John and Toni Srausburger, Terry and Peggy Clanton, Ray and Claudia Sharp, Vickie Fox, and Charlene Becker. As with many new organizations, differences of opinion and direction the Club should take, resulted in a split of Club members and a second Club, The Bull Terrier Association of Greater St. Louis. While both Clubs had the best interest of Bull Terriers at heart, it was just a matter of settling our differences and moving forward. This was done in 1983 and the rest is history. Our original Club logo was designed by Club Member, Terry Clanton, and is still used today. We thank Terry for his classy design! The BTCSL sponsored BTCA supported shows throughout the 80's, while working toward AKC recognition as a licensed club. In 1991, we reached our goal and were able to put on our first independent specialty. The Club continued to hold it's independent specialty in conjunction with Mississippi Valley Kennel Club and Edwardsville Kennel Club in June until 1999. Weather conditions this time of year in St. Louis can range from freezing cold to unbearably hot, not to mention rain. Since these were outside shows, the Club decided to move their shows to March at Grant Pavilion, an indoor facility, located in the famous Jefferson Barracks Park. Independent shows have been held at this facility since 2000. In 2013, we were informed by the St. Louis County Parks and Recreation that Grant Pavilion would no longer be available for our shows, as it was to be torn down and replaced with a community center. We were able to find an alternate facility at Westinn Kennels in Wentzville, MO and our shows continue to be held the second weekend in March. Our shows kick off the show season in the Midwest and have entries to support our BTCA ROM. In 2014, we invited the Miniature Bull Terrier Club of America to hold joint shows on this weekend. Although our shows are independent of each other, we share the same facility. Making the weekend a truly "BULLY" weekend. This has been a successful endeavor for both standards and minis. The Club has been serving Bull Terrier Fanciers going on 40 years and we are still going strong. If you would like to join our Club or would like more information, contact Cheri Croucher, President or Claudia Sharp, Treasurer.
